Summer is the perfect time to brew a refreshing batch of beer, and there are many fantastic styles to choose from!

Here are a few ideas to get you started:

  • Blond Ales: Light and crisp, blond ales are excellent for quenching your thirst on a hot day. They're typically made with pilsner malt and have a subtle hop character. You can find plenty of great blond ale homebrew kits online or at your local homebrew shop.
  • Kolsch: Another refreshing option, Kolsch is a German ale that's known for its clean, slightly fruity flavour. It's fermented at slightly warmer temperatures than other ales, which gives it a unique character.
  • Saison: They're typically spicy and peppery, with a citrusy aroma. You can try out different herbs and spices to create your unique saison. They may have a citrus or fruity flavour, accented with honey, brewing spices, and floral hops. Saison (The French season translation) is a seasonal summer beer. Saison beer styles originated from beers brewed during the cooler and less active months of the year in farmhouses in Wallonia, the French-speaking region of Belgium. These inhabitants then stored these beers for farm workers to drink during summer. General characteristics include:
  • A fruity flavour and smell.
  • Light or bitter hoppiness.
  • Pale orange body.
  • Thick head.
  • Light- to medium body.
  • Wheat beers: Wheat beers are another great summer option. They're light and refreshing, with a slightly tart flavour. You can find a variety of wheat beer styles, including hefeweizens, witbiers, and
  • Fruit beers: If you want something different, try brewing a fruit beer. You can also add fresh or dried fruit to your beer at various stages of the brewing process to create a variety of flavours. Strawberries, raspberries, and cherries are all popular choices.

No matter what style you choose, use fresh ingredients and follow your recipe carefully. With some practice, you'll be brewing delicious homebrew beers all summer!

Here are some additional tips for home brew  summertime recipes:

  • Use light-coloured malts to create a light-bodied beer.
  • Keep your fermentation temperatures cool to prevent off-flavours.
  • Use carbonation to give your beer a refreshing fizz.
