Sparkling Ederflower Wine Spring Home Brew Wine Recipe

The previous Elderflower Wine will be nearly dry, but when it has started to clear, and while some sugar is still present, it may prove suitable to convert into a sparkling wine.

  • A bottle containing some wine is placed in a warm spot and lightly sealed with cotton wool.
  • If, after a week, a slight deposit has formed, it is quite safe to transfer all the wine to champagne bottles, which should either be sealed with corks that are well wired down or with screwtops.
  • The bottles should be stored on their sides in a cool place, and after six months, they ought to be sparkling and ready to drink.
  • If, however, during the assessment of the wine for bottle fermentation, a significant yeast deposit is noted, fermentation should continue for a few additional days or even weeks until the sugar content in the wine diminishes.
  • A subsequent test should reveal a smaller yeast deposit, in which case the wine can be bottled and complete its fermentation in the bottle.
  • Bottling wine that exhibits a heavy deposit will inevitably result in burst bottles.
