Syrah or "Shiraz" is a dark red-skinned grape variety grown around the globe and used primarily to produce red wine.
Shiraz wine making kits are full-bodied wine with fruit flavours of blueberry, blackberry, chocolate, sweet tobacco smoke, spices and baking spices.
Shiraz is attributed to having a unique, exuberant character and therefore one would naturally pair it with equally flavourful types of food ranging from fried meats and BBQ’s to chocolates, sweets and jellies.
Originally Shiraz refers to the wine made in Iran, namely from the town of Shiraz when it was produced in the 9th century and was considered the most elegant wine in the middle east.
In 1999, Syrah was discovered to be the offspring of 2 obscure grapes from southeastern France, Dureza and Mondeuse Blanche.
Shiraz is best served at room temperature, and it ages well.
